The local knowledge
Mr Chesney sells organised adventures in another world, making its inhabitants perform the roles his customers expect from fantasy. Wizards, dragons and a designated Dark Lord become part of an exhausting tourist itinerary. The novel follows the people whose home has been turned into somebody else’s holiday attraction.
Our interpretation
A dragon, a distant castle and well-travelled luggage give the business a reassuring vintage holiday-poster face. “Adventure arranged. Inconvenience inevitable.” is our own advertising line, playing on the gap between a packaged adventure and the disruption behind it.
