The Flying Swan
A white swan, river reeds and weathered green-and-gold lettering. A familiar local from a decidedly unfamiliar Brentford.

The local knowledge
The Flying Swan is a familiar refuge in a Brentford where the extraordinary keeps interrupting everyday life. Jim Pooley and John Omally are among its regulars, with Neville behind the bar. The pub opens The Brentford Triangle, setting the scene for Rankin’s particular mixture of local life and cosmic absurdity.
Our interpretation
A white swan, river reeds and weathered green-and-gold lettering give our version the feel of a long-established riverside local. These visual choices belong to the artwork.
