The local knowledge
The customers at Gavagan’s have a remarkable supply of stories, with the supernatural slipping into apparently ordinary conversation. The bar provides a shared setting for comic fantasies and improbable encounters. It belongs to the tradition of fiction in which the best adventures arrive already told over a drink.
