The local knowledge
Rossum’s Universal Robots is the company at the centre of Karel Čapek’s play R.U.R. Its factory produces artificial people for labour, raising questions about work, humanity and the consequences of industrial ambition. The robots of the play are manufactured living beings, rather than the metal machines the word often suggests today.
